In 2016 we saw an opportunity to make use of reclaimed materials to develop a small range of authentically handcrafted rustic homewares.
Baby steps as we started our journey – here’s where it all began
2016
Add the joy of barn finds, salvaged items and making something from nothing and you have the start of a micro business.
Founding Rustic Trading (in it’s previous incarnation) in 2016, the brand was devised with the objective of making cool things, that looked great but also genuinely served a purpose whilst reducing waste from materials that would otherwise probably end up in landfill.
Learning how to keep a business going in a challenging retail environment
2017
By 2017 the business needed to become a little more serious and focused and as a result we upgraded some of the kit in our workshop and organised the business side of things too.
We introduced more pieces and following customer demand we looked beyond the home heading to the garden and wildlife for inspiration and this led to the launch of our garden range.
By this stage we knew our strengths and what our customers wanted
2018
We were able to clearly define our style and the Rustic Trading brand ethos. We embraced the rustic, the simple and reflect a desire to design and create stylish yet functional everyday products.
It is these home and garden products with unique hand finished elements that our customers love.
Going from strength to strength and broadening our customer appeal
2019
Be they traditionalists, eco-minded millennials or rustic wedding planners, our passionate and imaginative designs put our customer needs at the heart of everything we do.
Inspired by the latest trends, we are always hard at work developing new product ideas lovingly and carefully created in our little workshop in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire.
Not quite the year we had planned – but we survived!
2020
But all that paled into insignificance as we found ourselves in the midst of a global pandemic. The struggle to keep our business going in such trying times – especially in the retail sector – was real. However, we pulled through and we also launched a small selection of our products for sale on both eBay and Etsy and are slowly building a new following and customer base on these popular third-party selling destinations.
We try hard not to stand still and have exciting plans for the coming year
2021
In 2021 we’re going to be celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Rustic Trading brand – but before we get the cake and bunting out, we’ll continue to develop our product range, coming up with original and useful products, that we hope our customers will love.
Looking to the future, we’re going to create lots of cool new things and also be really busy on Instagram. We’d love you to join us on our journey…
