Behind The Scenes of a Derelict Barn Pick
Customers often ask where we find our reclaimed materials that we use in our products. So we thought it might be interesting to take a look at what a pick looks like – most recently it was a derelict workers cottage.
In our line of business we have a constant requirement for a regular supply of reclaimed materials for use in the production of our authentic rustic homewares and this comes from a range of sources.
We work with a number of local agricultural land owners and recently we were on a pick of a derelict workers cottage on their land in the middle of nowhere.
Here are a number of images of what we we found during our visit:

As lovers of all things reclaimed and salvaged, seeing the colours, patterns, damage and aging of the materials is an absolute treat. The way that time and the elements have an impact is often the most appealing thing.
The patina on wood and metals can only be found on truly reclaimed materials like this. Some try to recreate it but you’ll never beat the genuine article.

The danger of a pick when the location is in such a poor state cannot be underestimated. The very fabric of the building or structure can be compromised and there’s often severe damage that cause considerable hazards. It’s certainly the type of place you need a hard hard and sturdy boots!
No doubt there’ll be further trips over the coming months to ensure we have lots of raw materials ready to be converted into our popular authentic rustic homewares handmade with such reclaimed materials.
For any enquiries, please feel free to get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
